Philosophy

I Believe...

While I believe that spirituality is an important aspect of mental wellness, I neither endorse, nor promote in my practice, a particular religious philosophy. On the contrary, I welcome and embrace human diversity, not just in terms of religious persuasion, but also with regard to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender.

I believe that change is not only possible, but desirable... and that even "old dogs" can learn new "tricks"!

I believe that attending to mental wellness needs to be a priority... and that mental health check-ups (much like routine physical exams) can improve overall health & longevity. The mind and body are intimately connected... whatever affects one, necessarily affects the other... for better or for worse.

I believe that it takes courage to ask for help. It took decades for me to take that first step... to make an appointment with a therapist... but it was one of the best decisions of my life... in fact, it inspired me to enroll in graduate school and pursue a career in counseling (with no regrets!)

I believe that all of us have "stuff" we carry around... for some, it's a small cosmetic bag full of stuff... for others, a whole warehouse... I'm talking about mental/emotional baggage accumulated over a period of a lifetime... stuff that's become burdensome... to us... and, perhaps, to our friends and families. Through therapy, you'll be able to do some mental/emotional housecleaning... to sort through & discard some things from your past... and gain a greater appreciation for (and more joy and peacefulness in) your present.
